Maybe it’s only natural that an actress whose star has risen in the era of the brazen cut-out should make them her style signature. The risqué detail has been a familiar insignia across many of British actress Simone Ashley’s most striking looks as she makes her entrée onto the press tour circuit proper with the release of the second season of Bridgerton—of which she is the diamond in all but name. It’s been gracing riotously hued Valentino sets, ab-baring custom AZ Factory gowns and flimsy-flirty slips—the latter by London-based designer Nensi Dojaka, for whose cult following Ashley has become the unofficial flag-bearer.

Ashley first made her mark on the mainstream with a role in Sex Education as canonical mean girl Olivia Hanan, and has since transformed into a leading lady for Bridgerton, playing the steely and determined Kate Sharma to Jonathan Bailey’s Anthony Bridgerton. Both of her most notable characters have a strong sense of themselves—a self-assurance Ashley certainly appears to channel in her sartorial decisions.

Cut-outs are hardly her only form of sartorial risk-taking. She’s also been dosing up on dopamine: first, in a sheer Valentino blouse and matching cut-out bralette, crafted in Pierpaolo Piccioli’s particular shade of Pantone-made PP Pink (any other plosives we could fit into that sentence?) and later that evening, turning the colour dial just to the left—though keeping vibrancy levels at a shining high—in a plunging top and skirt by the same house. Jewel tones are a natural fit for Ashley’s sparkle.

As for who’s to thank for her striking ensembles? It’s a joint effort between the actress and celebrity stylist Rebecca Corbin Murray—together, a sartorial power couple whose partnership is set to spawn more showstoppers in the future. Because one thing is for sure: Ashley is just getting started.
